The Philo&Art Workshop in three steps
Step 1: Discovery
First, I present an artistic or literary work that questions the concept explored in the workshop. An artwork, a story, a poem, a children philosophy book, an art book are used as an educational tool allowing philosophical question to emerge. The artistic medium enables to enrich and nourish the children’s imagination, to express themselves before an artwork and to develop their artistic knowledge.
Step 2: Reflection
The second part of the workshop explores a philosophical question. I ask questions enabling the children to define the concept and raise the issues specific to the concept explored. I create links between the ideas proposed by the children, ask the child to give examples, justify and evaluate hypotheses, raise contradictions in order to enable the children to deepen and enrich their ideas.
Step 3: Creation
Thirdly, the concept is explored through artistic practice through different mediums: drawing, painting, ink, cutting and pasting, writing, etc. This time of creation allows children to approach the concept through plastic research. The child extends philosophical reflection into artistic expression. Then, the children discuss their creations with their peers.
